Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Highways & Civil Engineering
An Assistant Quantity Surveyor is currently required to join a Civil Engineering Main Contractor for an iconic Highways project based in Cornwall.
The project is an upgrade of a major dual carriageway on the M5 in the effort to provide a better link between the South East and the South West.
The main purpose of the role is to provide support for the commercial team to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.
Typical projects include roads & sewers, foundations, infrastructure, major housing developments and Highways.
Requirements/duties:
- To work with Cost Forecasts, actual costs, accruals, cost coding. To interpret figures, read bill of quantities and input/ code costs in the SPE system
- On a monthly basis, the candidate will produce monthly SPE reports, analyse them, look at deviations, and discuss with his/her management
- To keep the system up-to-date with costing information
- Level of qualifications, relevant experience:
- Great analytical capabilities, attention to detail and IT knowledgeable especially with spreadsheets
- Passion to get correct numbers and patient enough to achieve the right results
- Preferable experience with cost forecasts and budgets
- Preferable understanding of construction costs
Experience:
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor working on large civils projects
- Knowledge and skills in cost control of projects in the civils and Highways sector working on NEC 3 Contracts and multiple projects.
- Hold a relevant degree (e.g. Quantity Surveying or Construction Management)
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in construction
- Self-motivated, detail orientated and very organised, with an aptitude for working with numbers and absorbing and analysing technical information
Despite the current climate the organisation have been very busy throughout the pandemic and are currently in an enviable position with a number of projects in the pipeline for the next 3 years. As a result there is now an additional opportunity for an AQS to join the commercial department and support the Senior QS.
